Welcome to this succinct web profile of Dr. Alan Taylor.

As detailed in the sidebar Hat Stand, I am am a specialist teacher, lecturer and book author in film, media and drama, with post-graduate qualifications that range from Film Sciences, Media Education, Pedagogy & Film Production.

Since graduation as a qualified teacher from Oxford University, my teaching and curriculum managerial experience has encompassed Secondary, Further & Higher Education. Specialist courses have included Anglo-American Literature, Film, Media & American Studies and Screenwriting.

Academia & Publishing

For 2007-2008 I am based in Berlin, Germany, where I have been teaching  as Guest Lecturer at the John F. Kennedy Institute of North American Studies, the Freie University of Berlin. The following courses support the BA & MA Culture Programme, Uni. Professor Winfried Fluck:-

  • Spring/Summer 2008: American Yodas

  • Winter 2007: Hollywood on Hollywood (34 students)

  • Spring/Summer 2007: Framing News (64 students)

These courses follow from book publications on U.S. film and media histories, news broadcasting, Hitchcock and Renaissance/Jacobean Drama (Peter Lang, 2005 & 2007) and from recent Academic Appointments as Guest Lecturer elsewhere:-

  • 2004: at the Department of Mass Communication, the New Bulgarian University (Sofia) and

  • 2000-2003: the Seminar für Filmwissenschaft, at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz.

Theory into Practice: Collaborations USA, Europe

Other related projects, including workshops, speaking events and event organisation have been been undertaken with the J.W. Goethe University of Frankfurt/Main, the Filmhaus, Frankfurt/Main, Interspace, Sofia, the Kulturring, e. V, Berlin, and Cinemasports, the global network of digital filmmakers as based in San Francisco.

As well as teaching, I also contribute as Editor and Writer in Cultural Affairs/English to the on-line news journal Welt Express and the EuropeFront newswire. I specialise in covering aspects of the dramatic and visual arts in Berlin and matters of education.

Current Blended Research

Consideration at the moment turns to the representation of learning/teaching in film. This focuses primarily on theories of cognitive behaviour as figured in mainstream film narratives. Or, as Bing would have it:-
